Morning Assemblies: The Foundation of A Better Tomorrow

Morning assemblies in the virtual format of learning.

That’s a bygone era when students used to rush to school, climb the staircase, and with breathlessness enter the class to feel ‘Mission Accomplished’ as Morning prayers were about to be echoed in the school premises. Undoubtedly, this online teaching gave our students a chance to taste the flavors of school life but its ingredients, garnishing, and plating have changed drastically.

Now chanting of poised mantras are heard through PPTs and seeds of moral values are sown and nurtured through morning prayers and assembly themes but sitting far away from each other. No one, not even teachers had in their wildest thoughts that one day life will be like this.

“ The podium, green rooms of the school auditorium, entry and exit doors of the stage all are unembellished but the charm of learning while doing is still at its peak.”

Transforming the REAL scenario of Assembly into Virtual Assembly

I still remember the very first meeting where I was instructed to plan and schedule the assemblies keeping all the National as well as International dates/festivals in mind for this virtual world of learning. It was truly a hurricane task for me. A storm of unanswered flashed upon my inward

Took baby -steps and started designing, now another uphill task was to convince teachers and prepare these assemblies in this virtual platform but little did we know that our enthusiastic learners left us spell-bound with their presentations and never-give-up attitude. From program Outline to E invite; from self -composed poems to Plotgon videos; from enactment to group dance videos they explored each arena in a manner that opened the doors of learning for us as well.

Each Assembly presentation made us realize how unknowingly our learners are able to get a  chance to enhance the level of different quotients needed for their holistic development whether it’s the Intelligence Quotient as they learn about famous people, national/international important dates/ days, etc. Or the Emotional Quotient through YouTube videos they are developing empathy towards others, the pain is felt by them as well. Even Physical Quotient is also developed as the Sports department is an integral part of these assemblies. We can not deny that with Special assemblies based on Religious celebrations, their Spiritual Quotient has enhanced too  Last but not least through the topics based on disaster management, students are themselves sharing about those themes which are considered to the need of the hour so, the Adversity Quotient has to been enhanced this way.

 A gate-way for Skill Development

These unusual ways of Assemblies are serving as a gateway of developing skills in these millennium learners, its actually the need of the hour for them. Their command over digital techniques, oratory, becoming multi-tasker, learning patience is a few to mention as a boon of this pandemic situation.

 Pearls of Wisdom sparkling

Not only students but this virtual world helped our busy parents to shoulder this responsibility of guiding and nurturing these young minds to the fullest. The school community is reaching the parents’ community with just one click. The parents who are now invited in these assemblies and without being burdened to take an off from the professional front are sharing pearls of wisdom with students while sitting at their home itself.

Even grand-parents who always tried to hide behind physical discomfort now welcoming this initiative take by the school authorize and sharing their live-long tried and tested methods with students for their better tomorrow.

Now every assembly comes with a surprise element as guidance and first-hand information is flowing from all corners for students. A festival like Dussehra was linked with SDG-Sustainable Development Goals. Ram -Raj was compared and contrasted with 17 SDG goals and to my amazement students were answering and correlating it clearly.

“What the mind of man can conceive and believe, the mind of man can achieve.”

Napoleon Hill

This world of Virtual Assembly is truly a testimony to these words.
