HOW NUTRITIOUS FOOD IS IMPORTANT FOR KIDS!

Being an Early Years facilitator, I’m very much concerned about what my students bring in their snacks and lunch because nutrition in early childhood plays a crucial role. Good nutrition is like a fuel to our kids’ body. Proper nutrition in the childhood sets a foundation for life long health. Children need proper nutrition to support their growth and development. Proper nutrition also improves mental health of a child. 

A healthy diet provides essential vitamins and minerals to ensure that children have necessary antibodies to fight off infections and diseases. The nutritious food contains grains, vegetables, diary, fruits and proteins. The nutritional needs in early childhood are protein, carbohydrates, iron, calcium and Vitamin-D. Impact of nutrition on early childhood is about optimal growth & development, optimal weight gain, brain development, strengthened bones, etc.

Strategies For Promoting Healthy Nutrition in Early Childhood:

Firstly, caregivers should model healthy eating behaviour as children often mimic elders.

Involve children in meal preparation.

Have regular family meals with gadget free tables.

Serve variety of healthy food and snacks to your kids.

Ultimately let’s focus on the QUALITY of our kids’ food rather than the QUANTITY.
