Fostering Inclusivity:

The “Buddy System” in Classroom Management:

Creating an inclusive classroom environment is vital for student success.

Let’s discuss the “Buddy System” as a powerful classroom management strategy.

Strategy: The Buddy System

Example:

When a new student joins the school, to cultivates a sense of belonging to the new place and promotes a smooth transition. The buddy system is very effective.

We can ask in the class,” Who wants to be a buddy for ___new____student”?

You will be surprised most of the students will want to be the buddy.

Then lay the objectives of being buddy,

Helping him with schoolwork, to be updated.

Movement around the school campus.

This will create an atmosphere for both new admission students and the older ones to cultivate a sense of community. When they grow, they will take the initiative to ask and give help. We are instilling the value of being independent learners.

This not only fostered a sense of community but also reduced disruptive behaviour. Students felt responsible for each other’s learning and well-being, resulting in a harmonious classroom.

Here is a link to a research paper that discusses the effectiveness of the buddy system in improving student learning and well-being.
