Assessing the learners

Assessing the learners is an ongoing process. I assess my learners quite often. Formative assessments are an integral part of my teaching-learning process. I assess my learners using different strategies like questioning, entry slips, exit slips, conducting debates and discussions, asking learners to give presentations, worksheets, giving end of unit test papers. Besides giving written feedbacks I always make sure that I encourage and appreciate my learners verbally by using encouraging words and phrases. For group work, I appreciate the whole group for showcasing the collaboration and coming up with up to the mark responses.

For written tasks, I provide them the feedback which they feel encouraging and also get aware of the areas of improvement.

On weekends or in departmental meetings we share the best strategies for assessing the learners and providing the effective feedback. Recently, I made sure that the learners have understood the concept well by asking them to write a play wherein they were supposed to show the emotions of the characters by using different verbs.
