Marks or learning?

The learners have just completed their first assessment, eagerly awaiting me to distribute their papers, hoping to see their marks. This situation always leaves me disheartened. Instead of reflecting on their learnings, our discussions often revolve around grades. It’s a reminder of the environment we navigate, where marks often overshadow the joy of learning. When will this mindset shift?

I believe it’s crucial for parents to understand that marks are merely numbers and do not define a learner’s future. Today, as I handed back their papers, I chose to play music. I encouraged them to appreciate their efforts and nurture a love for learning. The students were visibly uplifted by this approach. Now, I eagerly await to see how they approach future assessments.
