On the other hand, if the emphasis is on developing students’ ability to express ideas coherently and effectively in writing, beginning with essay writing may be preferable.
You will also need to consider the proficiency levels and prior knowledge of the students in the class.
Consider which approach is likely to engage and motivate students more effectively at the outset of the course. Starting with a reading comprehension activity that presents engaging and relevant texts may capture students’ interest and curiosity, laying a positive foundation for further learning. Conversely, beginning with an essay writing task that allows students to express their thoughts and ideas from the outset may empower them to take ownership of their learning and feel more invested in the course.I believe that there is no one-size-fits-all answer to whether to start teaching EGP 8021 English with a reading comprehension paper or essay writing. It may be beneficial to incorporate elements of both approaches throughout the course to provide a balanced and comprehensive learning experience for students.
