Pages of Joy – gift of reading to children

I still remember my childhood days when I discovered my love for reading. The comforting scent of books, reading in the lap of my mother, the sheer joy of holding a book are some of my earliest memories.  As we witness this young generation consumed merely by screens, I pledged to develop the same passion for lifelong reading that was instilled in me.

  • This year, we started the Cambridge Reading program in the Primary School at The Ardee School. It was a transformative journey for us.
  • Our students seamlessly progressed from one band of reading series to another.
  • Through various activities, particularly cross-curricular activities, students have been able to engage deeply with diverse topics, enhancing their vocabulary and comprehension skills. The series is mapped to a range of international curricula.
  • Moreover, the program has ignited a passion for reading within our students, exposing them to a wide array of subjects and fostering a genuine love for literature. The students relate to the carefully chosen characters and settings in every book.
  • Students participate in read-aloud, role play creative writing, and discussions, enabling them to express themselves confidently, coherently, and creatively. All follow-up activities are mentioned in the last 2 pages of every book

It fills me with joy to observe nearly every student with a book in hand, whether it’s during lunch, breakfast, during dispersal, or even on the stairs in School now . Their affection for books shines through their daily routines, and it is a source of immense pride for all of us.

Reflecting on this, I’m reminded of the enchanting verses in “Pages of Wonder” by Emily Riverswhich beautifully capture the magic of reading that our students hold dear. One of her captivating poems, “Pages of Wonder” by Emily Rivers transports us to a world where imagination has no limits.

“With every turn, a new adventure unfolds,

In books, mysteries and dreams are told,

So, let’s open the covers wide and far,

And let our imaginations soar,

like a shooting star.”

All educators have a duty to guide the next generation of readers and cultivate a love of reading in the students . Give the gift of reading to the students.

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” ― Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
